Porcelain Laminates / Veneers

What is the difference between a veneer and a crown?
In general, a porcelain veneer or laminate covers the front of the tooth only. A dental crown will cover the entire tooth, all the way around.

* - required fields

What are porcelain veneers recommended for?
Most often, porcelain veneers are the best treatment if you have dark stained, chipped or cracked teeth. Porcelain veneers can also be used to hide small gaps between teeth.

How do I know if I'm a good candidate for porcelain veneers?
The best way is to schedule a consultation so Dr. Gurley can examine your teeth and determine the best service for your needs. In general, those with strong, healthy teeth are the best candidates.

Tooth Bonding
Will tooth bonding fix cracked teeth?
Yes. The tooth bonding process allows cracks in teeth to be filled in. The resin used will be colored to match the rest of your teeth, too.

Can tooth bonding reshape my teeth so they look better?
Because the tooth bonding resin is so pliable, you can have your teeth reshaped to look more matched and natural. The tooth can be made longer, too, if needed.

What is the tooth bonding process like?
Tooth bonding, or dental bonding, is a simple procedure that requires no anesthetic for application. A tooth colored resin, made of durable plastic, is applied and set using a special light. The light bonds the material to the tooth.

Do dental bonded teeth need special treatment?
Not at all. Just practice good dental hygiene by brushing after meals and flossing daily. Regular dental checkups are important, too.

Dental Crowns and Bridges

What's the difference between a dental crown and a dental bridge?
A dental crown sits on top of a broken, chipped or discolored tooth. Dental crowns can also be used to cover teeth with large fillings and not much tooth left.

Dental bridges cross from a healthy tooth to a healthy tooth, covering the space left when a tooth has been pulled. It bridges the gap and provides stability while allowing you to bite and chew normally.

How long will dental crowns and bridges last?
With good oral hygiene, dental crowns can last up to fifteen years. If you have a dental bridge, it is recommended you not chew hard candy or extremely sticky caramel. Otherwise, dental bridges can also last ten to fifteen years.

Teeth Whitening
Should I buy over-the-counter teeth whitening kits?
That is an option. Be sure to follow the directions very carefully. Be aware, however, that you may not get the results you want. These types of products do not have the same ingredients as what Dr. Gurley can provide in a more controlled environment.

Do you offer Zoom! tooth whitening? How long does the process take?
Dr. Gurley does use Zoom!'s state-of-the-art tooth whitening technology to bring your teeth back to the whitest smile possible. In just an hour, your teeth can be up to six shades brighter.

How does the Zoom! tooth whitening process work?
Zoom!'s one-hour whitening process is light activated. Once Dr. Gurley confirms that your teeth and gums are healthy enough for this procedure, a whitening gel - containing hydrogen peroxide - is spread over your teeth. Next, the Zoom! low-heat light is flashed on the teeth to activate and break down the hydrogen peroxide. As the hydrogen peroxide breaks down, oxygen is allowed to enter your teeth, which then bleaches the dentin and enamel. This process takes about 20 minutes and is performed three times in succession. The last step is a five-minute fluoride treatment.

How long will the tooth whitening results last?
In general, your whiter, brighter smile will last up to a year with proper dental hygiene. As with any treatment, however, results can vary.
