Waterlase is a technology developed by Biolase. It uses cool, laser-energized water particles that vaporizes decay, dentin, and enamel when directed at your tooth. Since the Waterlase technology does not put heat, pressure, or vibrations on the areas that it is applied to, patients need very little or no anesthesia. In most cases, the Waterlase technology eliminates the use of the drill in dental procedures and the disadvantages drills have; such as weakening teeth for future problems, cracking teeth, and damaging tissue beneath the teeth from over heating the area.

The laser-energized water particles produced by Waterlase vaporize both hard and soft tissue. This means that there is a lowered risk of infection because the Waterlase sterilizes the area mid-procedure. In turn, Waterlase reduces the amount of bleeding that occurs from the procedure. The Waterlase technology works so quickly and precisely that there is often very little downtime. In fact, many patients who choose not to use anesthesia can continue on with their day like normal just minutes after leaving the dentist office.
